At O2 Dental Group we perform wisdom teeth extractions. Also known as third molar extractions. Some wisdom teeth that are deeply impacted or difficult to extract may be referred to the specialist.
Most wisdom teeth extractions are performed with local anesthesia (numbing an area of your jaw).
Depending on your level of anxiety, you may qualify for a mild form of sedation which includes taking anxiety medications before your appointment. In some cases, this may also be combined with nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas).
Should you require full sedation or if your dentist recommends full sedation, you may be referred to a specialist for further evaluation or care.
Following your wisdom tooth extraction, your dental team will review post operative instructions with you so that you know how to take care of the extraction sites.
Pain medications and antibiotics may be prescribed by your dentist as necessary.
Why do you need your wisdom teeth extracted?
Your dentist may recommend that you have your wisdom teeth extracted if you have one of the following conditions:
- Impacted wisdom teeth
- Decayed wisdom teeth
- Infected wisdom teeth or wisdom teeth causing infection in an adjacent tooth
- Pain from wisdom teeth
- Difficulty maintaining proper oral hygiene around wisdom teeth
Not all wisdom teeth require extractions. If your wisdom tooth is fully erupted and not causing any problems and does not have any signs of disease, it may not be necessary to remove them.
At O2 Dental Group, we ensure that the patient’s condition is carefully assessed by taking an x-ray on the area where the extraction is needed for the appropriate method to be determined. Moreover, an instruction regarding the recovery process will be laid out as well by our dentist. Usually, we recommend patients to have a specific diet while waiting for the site to heal.
