At O2 Dental Group of Durham, our team of expert local dentists and staff are committed to providing you safe, effective, and relaxing treatments. That said, some patients still struggle with anxiety and noise sensitivity while in the dentist's chair. To help treat these symptoms, we offer sedation dentistry options that help eliminate feelings of stress or fear.
Deep Sedation & General Anesthesia for Adults & Children
Deep sedation and general anesthesia are offered to patients with extreme dental anxiety, those with special healthcare needs, or those who are getting an oral surgery or long procedure. This type of sedation is designed to put patients into a comfortable sleep to help promote a more productive and relaxing time in the dentist's chair.
Prior to administering the medicine, our anesthesiologist will review your health history to determine if these levels of sedation are right for you. They will be right alongside you before, during, and after the procedure to monitor your progress!
Conscious Oral Sedation
If you suffer from dental anxiety, our dentists may recommend conscious oral sedation. Anti-anxiety pills are designed to tone down activity in the parts of your brain that cause you to feel nervous or afraid.
Remember, if you take oral sedation, you cannot drive after your appointment.Make sure you have a friend or family member pick you up and drive you home following your appointment.
Laughing Gas
Dental anxiety can prevent many patients from visiting the dentist for checkups and much-needed dental work. If dental appointments make you anxious, our dentists can administer laughing gas to help you feel more at ease during your visit.
At O2 Dental Group of Durham, laughing gas is administered using a mask, allowing you to feel more at ease within minutes. If you are feeling anxious about an upcoming dental treatment, ask about nitrous oxide. Most of our patients are good candidates for this treatment, including our pediatric dental patients.
